Bricks: A quick way to trap
Over the past trapping season I have found that trapping with bricks as well as stakes works great! Bricks will hold most animals tight and they set up extremely quick. All you need to do is attach your trap to the big bricks with some strong wire. Here are some different ways that I have used bricks in my trapping.
Drowning sets~
I have found that bricks work wonderful for drowning sets. If coming from a boat you can just throw the whole set up right in the boat. I use one stake and one brick for drowning sets. The brick attaches to the side of the set that goes in the water and the stake goes in near shore. To set the trap just put the brick out in the water and the stake near shore. When pulling the set all that you have to do is pull the stake and then drag the brick in with the wire on your drowning set. You don't even need to get in the water!
Coon trapping~
I have found that when using coon traps for on land a brick works really good. Just hook your traps to the bricks before you leave( you can even hook more than one trap to a brick) using strong wire. When you go to set traps just grab your bricks and bait then head to your trapping spot. Set your traps and bait the area. Its nice because you don't need to worry about staking, just set the brick down( attached to the trap of course). You don't even need to worry about hiding the brick with raccoons. I have had success with the brick in plain sight.
While the bricks can be heavy they sure do work nice. Your trapping sets can be all ready to go. Just set the trap and go... no need to worry about staking! Good luck trapping!
